Sisyphus' Tale

A modern, poetic retelling of a timeless myth. Sisyphus’ Tale contemplates endurance, despair, rebellion, and the spark of transcendence within endless struggle.

SISYPHUS' TALE

Father tempus fugit although I deserve no compassion

I can boast cheating Death in a most original fashion

The punishment fits the crime my chore is never done

Pushing Jocky up the hill I can assure you is no fun

An eternity of incessant labour such is my lot

A lad insane am I who has simply lost the plot

A rebel without a cause a misfit with no agenda

A figment of mythology an ageless young pretender

To whom do I lament the severity of the sentence ?

To whom do I confess the sincerity of repentance ?
Unless my plight were to serve as the final paradigm

Of a journey to glory from ridiculous to sublime

Inque tuo sedisti Sisyphe saxo a moment of relief

Afford memories of a distant past albeit rather brief

Upon my buddy boulder vistas of Gardens of Eden abound

Today some strange stirring I espy from atop the mound

Agitation elation trepidation everywhere to be seen

I know not what all this commotion is supposed to mean

Curiosity piques my every nerve and courses up my spine

Hope floods my mind with stunning visions of a fresh design

Having sweet Fanny Adams to lose but everything to gain

Willing instant relief  as a decree to sham pain

Ears razor sharp, the crunch can all over be heard

Catch 22 Ubu and Camus unite to deride the absurd

Surrounded by naked Sirens my manhood as hard as rock

The shrill cries pulverise my loyal companion Jock

Where did all these damn nymphs come from wonder I ?

The dust spells out a memo from the Catcher in the Rye

Sweet liberation beckons in this blessed month of September

The Thirteen will descend a choice to make and remember

When the sun rises in the West and declines in the East

You might come to understand the nature of the Beast

When the moon splits in two day and night deceived

The cycles that you cling to never again retrieved

When the crack in the ocean rocks the sturdiest ship

Summon all your inner might and come crack the whip

When bountiful Nature’s mutiny pulls on the trigger

You will muster the vitality to go forth and transfigure

When the XIII-tier Pyramid cedes under the sands of time

Take a nightboat to Cairo the bells commence to chime

When fire begins to rage from the highest peaks

A choice will have to be made within seventy weeks

Whichever way it goes I honestly couldn’t give a twopenny fuck

From an eternity of labour I have finally become unstuck

Flip a coin if you will to plot a destiny unorthodox

Bluff the hands of fate by playing carrot in the box

My work is done my rendition to you I do relay with ease

Excuse me if you will I just have so many NILFs to please
